Should I move from Pipex 2Mbps

[link to this post]

Hi Folks,

I am a Pipex retention customer from the old Solo package, still paying 14.99 for a fixed 2Mbps connection. I have just joined Talktalk on my other phone line and got synced at 5536k, switched on when they said etc all seems great. I now feel I am paying too much for Pipex on the other line but it has been very reliable.

So the question, should I move to an ADSL max service, I am tempted to go for another Talktalk connection but for redundancy feel I should go with a different company? I think Sky were offering me broadband for a fiver the other day. By the way I am not really trying to skimp on cost here, I don't mind paying 15-20 per month just for broadband but would like something with a reasonable download limit (40GB +) that is fast and reliable.

Thanks.

Hi Woody, I was an old pipex solo customer and last Feb jumped to sky, big mistake, the five weeks that I was with sky I had about 3 days connection. So I went back to pipex, another bad mistake, they continued billing me twice a month for 6 months before I managed to stop them, and I am stil waiting for the 100 + that they owe me. To say that there customer care is [censored] would be giving them praise, I am now shifting to another ISP, thinking about Newnet at the moment, and then I will take them to the small claims court for the remainder of what they owe me. The main thing to think about is, as long as you dont need to contact customer services at pipex then you are ok, but if you have to, you had better start putting some extra cash aside for your phone bill.

For a reliable ISP with decent support you are looking at the entanet resellers, Zen, Plusnet etc. The problem you may hit is getting the download limit you want for the price but if you are prepared to schedule your downloads outside of peak times then you should have no problems.

Thanks for the replies guys, I am really impressed with Talktalk so far, they adjusted my profile to 6dB SNR within 5 minutes of me asking and I've got a stable 7Mbps sync on a 3.5km line. I just wonder how many ISPs will offer this level of easily reachable tech support?
