Does the pic linked in this post look like BT work to you Andrew?

That wire coming down doesn't look it to me, very thick, not vertical and loose.

Forgotten to mention. The router is plugged in to the filter which goes in to the master socket. There's about 2m or 3m of cable between the router and the filter.

.

Nothing to be done really. Slightly odd that the sync from the test socket was lower than the other two. Fortunately it hasn't cost you a profile step. See this table.

The figures confirm you would get no benefit from anything higher than an up to 8Mbps service. ADSL2+ will not give you a lot more speed, but on LLU ADSL2+ such as Be/O2 you may get a few hundred more kbps actual download speed because of the way things work.

What you might have a chance with, and a decent gain, would just be to connect as normal then try to leave the router connected for 10-14 days. From the stats you are on a sync-time (target) SNRM of 12 and it is possible if you stay sync'ed and not too many errors then the system will lower that to 9dB. If it does, then it will re-sync automatically and give you over 500kbps hundred more sync speed. Four or five days after that your profile will rise to match the new sync - see that table. (If it happens to do that auto re-sync overnight then it would be a good idea to re-sync in the morning to get the full benefit.

Let us know if you get lucky !

Similarly you may get a drop from 9 to 6dB after another 10-14 days. (The second 10-14 days will include the 4-5 days for the profile rise, it isn't 15-19 total ).

So you may end up over 4000 sync. Only time can tell .

If after the first 14 days it doesn't do a drop, get back with the stats then, but don't re-sync first. We need to see the 14-day error stats to see if that is the reason. It could be the 12dB has been fixed by BT and we can get it freed if the error stats aren't too bad.

In reply to:

Be tends not to take orders from lines as long as yours, and ADSL2+ is not going to make much difference at 58dB attenuation

Even the 'BE Value' package i.e. up to 8 Mb as opposed to up to 24 Mb ?

I recently asked if I would be considered for the 'BE Value' package if my exchange gets unbundled and BE wrote back saying this:

"Dear Mr XXXXX,

Thank you for contacting us.

We appreciate your interest in BE broadband.

Let us inform you that with Be broadband for this phone line XXXXX XXXXXX, you will be able to get around 1mbs download speed, because your line length is 4.1 km far from the exchange, which is the basic factor, which influence on the speed estimations.

If you need any further information do not hesitate to contact us, 08082348566, option1

Kind regards,
Be Team "

I told them in the e-mail that I can get a 4 Mb sync on Max

p.s. I have 54 dB attenuation.

I believe O2 are more relaxed about line length, but I could be wrong.
