Some Advice Please

Hi Guys,

Im currently with O2 access package as the only LLU I have is talktalk and the contract and phone line just isnt for me. Now I have recieving huge pings with O2 and have done for the last few weeks atleast, I know they have admitted congestions issues but from what ive read is the upgrades will apply only to LLU customers.

So I have my mac code and been looking at most of the Entanet resellers - TitanADSL, aquiss etc. The main thing for me is a decent ping as the main use during peak times is gaming, I also use usenet and such but I could deal with doing all that overnight if need be.

Some line stats (Not too sure if theyre required):

The main thing I am unsure of is the problems that entanet ISP's are reciving right now, I know i am a bit limited in what ISPs i can pick and choose but i would appreciate any help.

Pings on Entanet are superb even when the system is heavily loaded. I've just migrated from Entanet to UK Online LLU today. Pings to jolt.co.uk with Enta were usually around 13ms, now they are 20ms+

Do you download a lot? If you don't an ISP such as NewNet, Zen, or IDNet may suit your needs.

Can i ask what ISP you were on and Im guessing you left for the LLU service? - That 50 quid router purchase is a kick in the teeth =/

Edit: I would download I guess, more than average, but not excessively, I dont think the standard 30GB would ne enough for the whole month between games and downloads. If i could manage the downloads for off peak times instead with entanet.

O2 Access will probably sort out I think by some time late in March but that's a guess and a long time anyway which is no use to you.

If you have been reading threads in the Entanet forum here you should not be thinking of joining them until after their revised throttling system has settled down, and that isn't supposed to be in use until the end of March.

You have several good ISPs available, the choice depending on a number of factors. The two main ones are how much you are willing to pay, (which is clearly over £17 unless you have a special deal with O2), and how much downloading and uploading you do.

The list to look at is IDNet, Zen, Newnet, AAISP and possibly Plusnet. (I'll discuss the first four, then Plusnet at the end). Note that Newnet count both download and upload whereas IDNet and Zen only count download. I think AAISP also only count download but I'm not sure. AAISP also has an unlimited "Night" period of 2-6am which is not counted.

Plusnet has two packages that might suit, Option 3 and Pro. The major difference is thatPro is specifically aimed at gamers, has no throttling at any time, but only a 15GB allowance in peak time. (Unlimited period overnight). Option 3 does have throttling but also 30GB peak allowance. If you scroll down this page you will see the details of the throttling. The packages themselves are easily found on the web site, but that page is a bit out of the way . They count download and upload.

If your down plus up usage is under 20GB then Newnet should suit. Above that one of the others or Plusnet anyway because of the gaming priority. Plusnet have a 90-day money-back guarantee.

Thanks for the info Rob, I Think i will move to plusnet option 3, i spoke with their support and the only difference is that the pro package recieves prioritised traffic when the game in question is not on their system and occurs only with new game releases. But he said it only ever takes around a week for a game to be added, so i dont think that privilege is worth 15gb less peak usage.
