You basically do as you say, but ensure the IP address of the dg834g does not clash with the o2 box, and turn off DHCP in the netgear router, i.e. the netgear is now just a wireless access point with 4 ports

Ah right thanks! my activation letter from Pipex was the 20th June originally so presumably that is when my contract ends each year ? (payment is taken on 4th of the month ), how long before then do i ring Pipex for my MAC code ? hopefully with them not making it awkward for me !

also would i need the Router setup on the main socket while the change over is in progress ?

Thanks again

That depends on what you think will happen with O2 discounts by June.

If you got your MAC now and sign up by the end of this month, you get a free month then ongoing at £7.34 or £12.23 per month. BUT -

If you sign up through Quidco instead, and are careful about clearing cookies as described there, then there is a £70 cashback as well as the free month at the moment, though of course that cannot be guaranteed until paid. There have been no reports that I know of it not being paid. (If it is your first Quidco transaction in a year then they take £5).

In your postion I would be tempted to just pay off the Pipex contract.

Yes obviously it's unknown what deals O2 will be doing in June but i dont mind that.

As to the Quidco it sounds a little to good to be true although looking at the small print you have to do the order in a very perticular and long winded way, plus it's hard to believe they want to give £70 away ! but i'll think about it.

normally speaking though should i ring about 6 weeks before end of contract to request MAC ?

Oh, I don't know; I regularly get £60 - £120 cashback, each year, from my home & car insurance. I don't see any reason why O2 broadband would be any different.

Are you sure your on a 1 year rolling contract as i remember that when i was at Pipex it was a 1 year contract and after that 1 month rolling contract .

Worth checking as you could bail now and as you been with them 7 years i would think you would be on the same contract i was on when i was with pipex .

You maybe able to avoid the 10p charge have a look here http://www.saynoto0870.com/ .

Its always worth having your own domain if for nothing else you can take your email with you where ever you go and are not tied to a ISP email
