need a new isp

[link to this post]

i have been jumping isps over the last year.

i was with freedom2surf for many years until the tiscali corp got there hands on it. then i left for adsl24 which was great for the first 6 months then i started getting speed issues. the speed and ping were like a yoyo on what had been a nice stable connection. after a month of trials i finaly found out it was down to lack of bandwidth and that more pipes were being added. it didnt happen so after reading around it seemed o2 were getting a lot of praise so i joined them.

the first month or so was fine but now i get nearly 7meg during the say with very low ping but after 4 in the afternoon it drops down to as low as 0.4meg and my ping goes thru the roof. ive been fobbed off for the last month with fix dates to the o2 network which is very over sudscribed now causing their network to go into meltdown every day.

the thing is where do i go now??? i have a bt phone line and my exchange is not llu enabled with anyone. i want a nice stable connection throughout the day and night, i dont want any isp that has signed up to this whole snooping/monitoring that a lot of them have becuase whether i download torrents, watch streamed video or play online its my business and no one elses.

i know these are a lot of asks in this day and age but there must be an old school type of supplier out there that hasnt been bought out yet. give me back freedom2surf from 2 years ago when they used to give a dam

anyone got any ideas????

The most important question is what your download, and with some ISPs upload as well, is per month. Is gaming important, and whereabouts in the country as some ISP's routing can affect pings.

I think it's worth saying that I think the latest date of mid-April for Access to be fixed is probably reliable, (as long as no actual installation problems arise), as so far as I know it is the only official statement about it. The earlier rumours have all been based of what users say somebody in support has told them on the phone by the look of it.

i personally play online games a lot and watch things like bbc i player so i would put myself in the 30g a month bracket as far as useage is concerned. i live in weymouth dorset on the preston exchange so ltd to bt line only isp,s.

as far as o2 are concerned i am peeved because i am one of those people that spoke to o2 about a 3-4 weeks ago and was told it would be fixed within 2 weeks. then i spoke to them before the weekend and got told by the end of the month, now o2 are saying mid april so when i am getting the details direct from them i get the feeling they havent really got a clue.

That's exactly what I meant. The mid-April one is an official post in their own forum. It should carry much more weight that a level 1 support guy sick of answering the same question umpteen times a day when he hasn't really been told anything concrete himself.

Re 30GB ISPs you should look at IDNet and Zen, and possibly AAISP if you can fit in with the unusual 3-way split of the day: peak, off-peak and night. Check out their forums as well though, as there seems to be a fair bit of general trouble around.
