Which ISP from this exchange? Does LLU matter?

[link to this post]

Hi;

I am on the Almondsbury exchange on a very very long line. Currently I am with newnet and sync is about 1.8, with very poor line stats (interleaved), so an up to 24 meg is not a high priority from an ISP.

I notice from samknows that I have LLU from orange and talk talk available. I don't really know much about Local loop unbundling, and what benefits that might give me, but is it something I should consider? I presume its the same bit of wire, so the only difference would be price?

I am reasonable happy with newnet, but the download limit for the price I pay is a bit restrictive. Also (as a part-time gamer) the ping (thanks to Interleaving mostly) leaves a lot to be desired.

Do you think either of the LLU providers would represent better value for me, bearing in mind I have a pretty poor ADSL connection anyway?

Thanks in advance

JB

Looks like you'll have to find the best non-LLU ISP which serves your needs.
There's no point in trying LLU - your exchange only has the rubbish ones (and two of the worst, at that)!

Hi;

Thanks, I kind of feared that looking at the feedback for the LLU operators available.

Looks like newnet might keep my business for a bit longer. Its a bit pricey, but has been fault free on my poor line for a few years now, and that has to be worth something.

Cheers

JB

Newnet are one of the best. I only left them due to cost and ADSL2+, as O2 LLU is available at my exchange and now it costs me £7.34 per month.

For gaming you could possibly look at Plusnet, but only the £19.99 Pro package, which has a 12-month minimum term frown.

Bob: Demon dialup >> Freeserve dialup >> BT Broadband >> Prodigynet >> Newnet >> O2 Standard.
Purple Cloud for domain, email and web space.

I'm with Fast, a lot of people find Fast pricey, but they are superb IMO, way faster at all times than any other ISP I have been with and also for £45.99 per month for 110 GB download (448 kbps upload package) I don't find it massively over expensive, also the customer service (when I need it) with my ISP Fast is simply superb, they will bend over backwards to get things sorted out and have on two occasions arranged for a BT (Openreach) engineer to come to my house to do some tests etc. No other ISP that I have been with was prepared to raise my then slow speeds with BT, they just kept telling me that my speeds were within the thresholds that BT set. So I am also staying put, has I see no reason to move when I have got everything I want from my ISP and more.

If like you say " Its a bit pricey, but has been fault free on my poor line for a few years now"

Then I think its best staying put IMO. Some people find with the cheaper and sometimes too good to be true offers that the bigger ISP's can have, is that they get a mass of people joining them, this can then result in them been oversubscribed, and this is when speeds start to suffer.
