Moving away from BT retail suggestions needed

[link to this post]

Hi

I am leaving BT after months of problems with yo-yoing speeds which BT retail and BT Openreach can't solve. These are the providers available in the exchange.
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
BT Wholesale SDSL
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Tiscali LLU
Tiscali TV (via Tiscali LLU)
Orange LLU (Formerly Wanadoo)

I am a fairly heavy user. I would like to be able to stream video, download movies, use X-box live as well as email and web browsing.

I am still in contract for the phone.

Virgin cable services are not available on this estate.

Any advice would be welcome.

Possibly Sky if you have or want Sky TV.

Otherwise Be or O2 are by far the best. Have a look in either forum on this site for a post by MKD and follow the tinyurl link in his sig for his excellent comparison of the two.

If you move fast you could do well, specially with O2.

They have a free month on offer until 31 March, and if you sign up through Quidco a probable £70 cashback, or £65 if it's your first deal through Quidco in a year. (They take £5 off your first deal each year). The cashback tends to cut off at the month end, or drop to £25. Then rise again near the end. It varies without advance notice.

More important - you might like the 30-day money-back get-out clause in view of your problems. Regarding that, you would be connected to different equipment at the exchange, which might solve things.

Looking at the attenuation in the other thread, I suggest the O2 Value package at £12.13pm, or £7.34 if you have an O2 Mobile - the mobile on monthly contract or PAYG with a minimum £10 topup every three months.

Bob: Demon dialup >> Freeserve dialup >> BT Broadband >> Prodigynet >> Newnet >> O2 Standard.

Might put this in my sig and just 'empty-quote' OPs like this in future.tongue

Good luck smile.

Lets's hope the exchange equipment change sorts the line troubles. It isn't very likely, but there's a chance.

The big difference you will notice even if the problem doesn't go away is that there is no profiling system like the one on BT. So if you get a low speed, as soon as you re-connect at a higher one you get the new speed. No waiting several days for the profile to rise to match.
