Is this too much to ask for?

[link to this post]

Hey everyone. I am a long time user of Eclipse, infact they were my first broadband provider when I signed up to them in 2002. I am on a tariff so old they no longer offer it (Flex home 1000) and was looking to upgrade to something faster.

The problem is the connection will be shared in a household of 4 people, and we constantly hit 50gb per month usage, sometimes more, up to 80gb. I've stayed with Flex home 1000 out of fear, as although the 1mb speed is pretty [censored], we have unlimited download allowance. To upgrade to something within eclipse that could handle that much would cost quite a lot more, and many people are complaining they don't offer a good speed anyway, so I'm considering changing.

My question is though, is it too much to ask for a service that can offer FAST speeds, over 50gb/month usage, and all for below £25/pm ?? Or is that absolutely impossible, and I should bite the bullet and fork out much more cash? I'd love to hear in your replies what your usage is, and whether you feel you're getting value & speed from your ISP.

Thanks!

Hi, I am with AOL, and download quite a lot myself, not quite 50gb though :-0
All I have noticed is that my old speed of 6meg seems to have been capped at 5.4meg. While AOL wont admit its capped, its pretty obvious. I am quite close to the exchange too, which is why I get a good speed. I pay £17.99 for unlimited 8meg.

unfortenatly its too much to ask for on a ipstream service.

high speed + unlimited + no congestion/shaping on ipstream I expect around £70 a month.

samknows.com go there and check your post code to see if any LLU operators in your area, the ones to look out for are.

easynet/sky
BE
cable and wireless

if any of those 3 are there then sign up to either.

sky - easynet
ukonline - easynet
BE - BE
O2 - BE
vivaciti (llu service) - cable and wireless
adsl24 (llu service) - cable and wireless

otherwise isps I could reccomend?

aaisp - unlimited off peak
O2 - unlimited, no traffic shaping but will have some congestion.
plusnet pro - in theory should be ok they claim to not traffic shape their pro product heavily. (dont confuse with the cheaper unlimited product)

If you've got C&W or Bulldog LLU on your exchange, give Vivaciti a go, I've been with them and no complaints here!

Unlimited usage, no FUP and £21.85 a month, Bargain.
