ISP in Cambridge

[link to this post]

I'll be moving to Cambridge next month and am trying to decide which ISP to sign up with. According to samknows, the LLU providers are:
AOL
O2/Be
C&W / Bulldog
Pipex
Sky / Easynet
TalkTalk
Tiscali

Is anyone here able to give me any recommedations? It's been a few years since I last used ADSL, but I remember Tiscali, AOL and Pipex being pretty bad.

Thanks

O2/Be on LLU is the current best choice. Search for user MKD and look at his signature. It links to a Be and O2 comparison to see which is better suited to your needs.

As John says - o2.Be, with one caveat. If the O2 number checker says they can only offer you their "out-of-area" service O2 Access then run a mile.

The O2/Be LLU service is excellant, O2 Access is dire.

There is a link to MKD's documents on the Useful Links page of my website.

Do you expect to be there long-term or will you be a student?

Thanks for the replies, looks like O2 LLU will be the one to go for since I should be quite close to the exchange.

I'll be there for 12-18 months as a placement student, so not really long term. Either way i'm fed up with cable (Virgin Media in Portsmouth is truly awful) and I'd like to get ADSL even if I have to pay to install a new phone line smile

12 months on O2 LLU is fine, it's 30 days notice after that. Just make sure you are offered Standard/Premium/Pro. Also make sure you clear cookies and go through a cashback site such as TopCashBack or Quidco when actually ordering! See MKD's stuff again.

Places to look for phone installation as well as BT are the Post Office and Sky. Watch out for deals, such as BT may still have free installation with an 18-month contract, though how that would work if you cancelled after 13 months you would have to find out.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
