Which ISP ?

Can you help me out please. I am currently with UW Unlimited (60 GB ish fair use) and my son is doing a lot of viewing of podcasts, u-tube etc. and this is pushing the limits on our UW package. Their policy has been, in the past, to "throttle" the connection for the balance of the month if they decide that you are exceeding the usage.

Can you recommend the best options available for a non-LLU ISP - he thinks that he needs / wants to be able to use about 10GB a day or something like 200+GB per month. I am happy with keeping UW for line and calls etc (being a UW rep, I am obviously happy with the overall package )

So long as UW haven't LLU'd your phoneline I would suggest Sky Unlimited on that exchange providing they have spare slots.

Thanks for that. The SKY checker shows that they have availability with a maximum estimated download speed of 3Mb - Can I assume that the estimated 3Mb is irrelevant as we already have something in excess of 6Mb

Make sure that is definitely Sky Unlimited, (which is LLU but partial as long as you keep your rental with UW as you propose), not Sky Connect which is BT-Wholesale based and dreadful.

I don't know if that checker tells you, and as boysteve says, you need to be sure there are LLU slots free. That could be doubtful on that exchange.

Does www.speedtest.net show your existing underlying ISP?

I think Sky is Interleaved only. Do you know whether your line is currently interleaved or fast path? That affects gaming. The router stats often tell us, see here for help finding them.

Yes, that makes sense. It is Tiscali LLU rate capped at 8128kbps.

Tiscali is now owned by TalkTalk, but it may still be on the Tiscali LLU kit. It seems as though all that is being replaced by TalkTalk though. If and when that happens the wholesaler will be TalkTalk Business.

On a move to another ISP, perhaps one of the TT Business resellers, it could achieve a connection speed between 12Mbps and 14.5+Mbps.
