You are typing a lot again, without giving any clue as to what the problem was
e.g. was the modem connecting at a slow speed, or was something else going on?
In theory ADSL will not connect at below 160Kbps.

Contract would have stated things about 'best efforts service' and that they will attempt to resolve faults, but promise no immediate fixes. The solution is normally to keep paying, and ensure complaint is lodged and fault is being worked on, and once resolved discuss compensation, since you know the period it was not working.

Throughput faults are very difficult, since its easy enough for people to have issues with their own hardware and someone might be trying to use that reason to avoid paying the full fee that month.

I think the speed problem is an irrelevance Andrew, it seems to have been at the beginning of the contract. The only thing he seems to be worried about is not receiving invoices.

In reply to a post by MrSaffron:

Yes, I've been all through that, I've taken the computer to the entrance, in the kitchen and so on. Initially I read the speed from the old speedtouch modem for I thought that the router could be faulty then I followed the BT link and, I have screenshots to prove it, I was given the speeds I quoted: 50-60 down and 750 up. No problem with my hardware. But, as Roberto points out, the final straw was the failure to produce the, many times promised accounts. As for patiently waiting till next year following the normal procedures, I'm 70 yrs old and when you've reached the three scores and ten "next year" could be somebody else's affair.
However the problem is now fixed: BT has now kindly released me from the contract and I shall be migrating, probably back to TalkTalk for in the south-west other suppliers seem to make a poor show, and with this I will close this chapter.
Thanks to all who have shown an interest. Shall keep an eye on this site and see how other people fare. It has certainly been an eye-opener. Bye.

Easier to understand what you are saying if you move the final "quote" to after the first comma smile.

Took me over 6 months to get DD set up again for BT Phone as it kept getting rejected by my bank, as BT kept using the identical details in the DD instruction to my bank to set up the DD
Multiple calls to BT India trying to explain the problem and I eventually had to just wait 6 months before I requested the DD to be set up again

On my ocassion after a lengthy phone call to BT, as advised by my bank I asked for the reference used in the DD instruction and was given a BT call reference - not at all what I asked for.

I was a complete nightmare and as I had no DD set up, I forgot nearly every month to pay the bil despite the reminders I had set upl

I still don't know why BT cancelled the DD in the first place!
