Which Provider?

I have been with AOL for over ten years but the average speed has now dropped to 200Kb on peak. I can get a full speed (~8Mb) service off-peak so it's not my set-up (Which AOL tell me it is!). I live in a fairly rural location (Elmley Castle) but am close to the exchange. My question is given the exchange has no LLU presence i(ADSL Max enabled only) is the slow speed an ISP issue or and exchange issue? If it's the ISP is there anyone who will be better (cost within reason is not so much of an issue)?

I am currently consider plusnet.

You should get the same speed from all ISPs as your exchange is "Up to 8 Meg" IPStream only, other than exchange congestion, which is unlikely as it is a small exchange, or ISP core network congestion.

There is no point in being with AOL there as they have no LLU.

Have a look at BT themselves, Plusnet and EE.

Do you have your phone with BT? Do you want to keep it that way?

I think Plusnet is a good choice for your fairly rural location.

How long before EE does similar? At the mo' email is hosted by France Telecom.

So use a third-party email provider... saves a lot of hassle in the long run whoever your ISP is.

Or use O2 email. It's free, unlike mail hosts and domain providers if that's what you mean, and does not require having BB with them, just any network's mobile to register.

Good! So is the Hotmails & GMails of this world but a lot of sites refuse you to register with them with these addys cuz of their propensity to get hacked and get spam. Not so with O2.

Shame for Sky users, Yahoo no thanks! I have dial-up account with Free-Online.co.uk now merged with Plusnet and can still use the email account also use email account and dial-up with Tiscali.co.uk now merged with TalkTalk.
