The connection is shared between 4/5 people. The internet is used as the primary means for media consumption for 3/4 people. Lots of 1080p films and TV shows, around 60 hours of live HD sports streaming a month, iPlayer, YouTube, Netflix, cloud backups, music, photos, emails etc. Just checked in uTorrent and over the last 31 days and it's tracked up and down traffic of just short of 400GB*. Tomorrow I'm going to have to download just short of 1TB of mainly broadcast quality videos in multiple formats to put onto a portable HDD to send to someone as a backup.

*Linux ISOs and multiple version of OpenOffice.

It sounds like this connection is for business use. You are going to find it hard to get a decent residential grade package which can deliver on these requirements. You can certainly go the Sky/TalkTalk route, but I'm pretty sure you will not be getting full speed all the time on the connection (due to contention) and they certainly won't provide you with a business grade SLA or technical support. But what do I know? That's just my opinion.

When I said this level of usage is "obscene", I wasn't having a go at you directly. It's "obscene" because you are expecting this from a residential grade broadband connection, which I think is unfair on other users and way beneath the sustainability of such a connection.

EDIT: Basically, you have 5 above average "heavy" residential users on this connection, each doing 600Gb/month. And you're trying to fit them all onto just one broadband connection. That's where you are coming unstuck. Maybe provisioning 2 slower broadband connections, and balancing between them is a better option? (also gives you redundancy). It just seems like way too much for a normal residential link I'm afraid.

Well as you can get FTTC that has to be the way to go, whichever ISP you choose.

what is it 4 or 5 people ? don't you know how many people in your household

sorry that is a load of bull there is 5 people in my household all using the internet that is why I pay for my usage by having 2 internet connections installed AND yet could never get that close to what you do. pathetic and a total pisstake I bet my house on it that all that you are downloading is not legal and above board

Obviously nobody sleeps or has a job in this residence..... (600GB/mo equates, roughly to 10 hrs HD viewing/day!)

Hmm, so what your doing is downloading everything from iPlayer and sending it to somebody?
