I'm not 100% but I think adslmax tested this fairly recently. Well worth a try. The bug is obviously in BT's software and they need to fix :-/
Don't necessarily have to use the external modem with the homehub if there is a problem. But, having the modem sitting in a cupboard gives options later if wanting to replace the homehub.
