That's ADSLx+phone, not FTTC+phone, and in a low cost area.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync zilch (problem somewhere) since 11:46a.m. 24/3/15

That's the 38/19.5 not the 78/19.5, again in a low-cost area. You said much earlier it was Market A. Which exchange is it please?

That £49.99 is nothing to do with the broadband, it is for the installation of a brand new phone line. A BT transfer which is what you would be doing is free. See Table 2.1.

Given the OP's position re not in low cost area, Zen would become a better choice for the FTTC 80/20 £30 install fee 12mth min term , £35.40 per month ,or £30 per month with line rental), or for cheapness on line rental/calls only post office or one of the other CP's that offer line discounted line rental deals or failing that pay BT a year in advance and get line rental saver with free weekend calls 12mth min term

But which ever choice made there isn't a lot in price difference

AIUI you don't get the £11.nn line rental on Zen FTTC, it's the full whack. I also want to check a bit more about the exchange, I believe I have the Ofcom re-rating of exchanges to A/B list, but Plusnet may not adhere strictly to that.

I agree here are several alternatives, but my dinner is nearly cooked. Will look later.

Yeah it does say on the web page that the line rental increases if with FTTC , i can't see why this is myself other than that they want £35,40 or so for FTTC 80/20 regardless ?
But as the price differential isn't that big ,from a quality of service, no shaping / prioritisation , or use secondry IP profiles typically set lower than the BTW IP profile , With Zen there is also the posibilty if they have a llu presence in the exchange the BTW ip profile would not be used , so a even higher throughput would be possible just as SKY FTTC and dare i say it TT

You can't eliminate TCP/IP overheads, which is basically what the FTTC version of the IP Profile covers. The Plusnet "Current line speed" is the IP Profile rounded down to the 100kbps so not really significant. Plus all ISPs are supposed to limit the data sent down the link to far enough below the sync speed to avoid packet loss at the MSAN. That's what these systems are doing.

At least one of the niche; quality; ISPs does have a similar system to the Plusnet "Current line speed". At the moment I can't remember which, but I should have a link somewhere. They just don't generally publicise it.

Just for completeness the Zen business tariff is:
Line Rental Plus + Anytime Calls
Monthly service charge £23.50 including VAT [Line rental + anytime calls 01/02/03/0870/0845]
Unlimited ZEN Fibre 2 Broadband
Monthly charge: £30 including VAT
That's £53.50 a month. An equivalent Business TalkTalk Service would be £48 a month. What little extras do you get with Zen for the extra £5.50 over TTs pricing? Not a lot really and I question whether Zen will be around much longer.

Well that is theory not in reality even more so now that G.INP is being rolled out as it also has new IP profiles ,and Plusnets system restricts throughput by a lot more than 100kbps more like 1-2mbps also there is the prove that BT retail customers are getting a higher throughput that plusnet customers in speedtest results Sky FTTC results appear to be the highest they don't use BTW or there profiling system
