I'm a PC gamer, so by all means ignore it, but I'm a fairly decent BF4 player (specialising in TDM) and I was having ping of 7-15ms on my favourite servers. I've had some problems with occasional ping spikes (>200ms) which would get me knocked out of servers, so Sky switched interleaving on.

That hasn't stopped those occasional ping spikes, but my standard ping is now 25ms+

Have I felt any difference in gameplay? Nope, not a jot. I can still finish at or near the top of the scoreboard most games.

Now of course games handle their network latencies differently, so lower has to be better - in case you play a game that doesn't do a good job of levelling the playing field, but would I consider interleaving (with a 15ms penalty) to be a deal-breaker? No.

Does fibre optic drop speed much in peak times?

My bt line cabinet is bout 8 houses down i know that as i had line fault before and bt bloke said it was there. But where my bt line cabinet is there no fibre cabinet near it. The only fibre cabinet i can find is bout 15 houses back up the hill from my line cabinet.

my adsl quote from bt is upto 15megs and i currently synced 15.8 sometimes hitting over 16. The fibre quote is fttc A clean down 49.9, low 35. Fttc B impacted 42.8, low 24.7. This makes me feel as my fibre cabinet further then is the one im finding,

i also got a filtered master socket and 1 filtered extension, would i be able to use the filtered extension for location of fibre router.

routers can i request a hh5 type B as heard type a are poor compatibility or just buy my own

It would all depend on where in the world the server you wanted to play on is located, and the ISP's peering
But if you have a FTTC connection ,even if you ain't you may wish to host a game server or and voice coms server such as teamspeak or ventrilo, the lower ping and less lag the better, BT has some strange routing that increases latency for no obvious or logical reasons,

Depends on the ISP mostly,(how hot they like to run their network) But there can be other factors that may impact performance at times too,

The FTTC cab is normally within 50mtrs of the PCP that your phone line is connected to, So maybe as you suspect you are on a different PCP further away, the estimate would suggest this, although it is exactly that an estimate,not always accurate

If you have
One of these type of filters which is what a BT engineer would supply & fit, as part of the managed install there is no need to filter telephone extensions , you can run an extension unfiltered from the filtered faceplate to a line box and connect the modem to that, or it can be hardwired by connecting to the A & B lugs on the inside of the faceplate, but use cat 5 or other twisted pair quality cable, (Avoid the flat stuff)
As for the modem/router supplied by BT (HH5) you can request version B but there's no guarantee that they will supply this type you may get a type A , that is incompatible with G.inp currently, as referred to earlier in this thread

i got infinity order but can always cancel it as i want i for gaming and chat, and download bit quicker.

And if bt got some weird routing issue and g.inp adding loads latency maybe look elsewhere.

this ain't going work now i think. For my master i have adslnation filtered faceplate with a newish(last yr) bt test socket behind it i have just one extension to filtered faceplate socket and joining the 2 faceplate's is bt cw1308 the proper bt wire used in property's.

Hello everyone

have I gone and made a mistake getting a infinity order.
Looking at posts on various forums I'm now having 2nd thoughts.

I'm seeing things like:
my infinity keeps dropping, my speed had dropped after like few weeks, latency/high pings, g.inp, homehub keeps dropping connection.

also with line att on adsl2 was 29.5 db and now 31db and on fastpath 3db with a stable connection will it be same but just faster

Are you able to try an alternative to the homehub? I had problems with all my devices disconnecting and it was an issue with the homehub and the way it calls back to check for updates. Installed a different router and my line has been very stable since.

If it is a line fault rather than the hub then you may find you would have the same issue with any ISP. Certainly g.inp affects all ISPs.

EDIT: Sorry, thought you had BT and were seeing issues. BT have a very large number of customers and some people will have problems. Look at any big ISP and you will see a likely similar ratio of posts of issues. Your experience will entirely depend on your circumstances - barring the homehub I have had no problems with BT line in getting on for 3 years. My ping is between 7 and 9 ms (although it does go up to about 11ms between 8-10pm). Downloads are generally at line speed (downloaded a large game patch last night at about 6:30pm and had line speed the whole time).

Luck of the draw - most people have been "lucky", some haven't. The ones that haven't are the ones you will generally see on forums asking for help. The lucky ones tend not to post so much - they don't need to.

I've found my fttc cabinet it's a huawei cabinet and from my address to the cabinet using Google maps is 0.3(482 metres) to 0 4 miles(642 metres)

Does that mean g.inp is enabled and is that good or bad and have I now got a better router and getting rid of the hh5?.

At these distances from the cabinet is it worth the upgrade to fibre?

What speeds am I likely to get?

I'm 600m and with G.INP getting syncs as per my sig. Before G.INP it was more like 57/13Mbps.

I've seen some on these forums getting quite a lot more (pre-G.INP) and also some getting less. I don't recall any under 50Mbps.
