Re: Pulse8 for rural market 1 exchange? ADSL option differen

[re: RobertoS] [link to this post]

I must admit the Sky situation is confusing and sometime has me wondering if the left hand knows what the right hand is doing.

For a time it was true - Sky stopped offering ADSL products on our account because of area. Then they were able to again, and that was confirmed again when the fibre went live in out area. We had the bumph from all the suppliers inc. Sky falling over themselves telling us fibre is available and we should move immediately to get x y & z benefits.

I did wonder if they were making exceptions on who they would (not) supply based on account history - we originally had Sky from a few weeks after their launch in the UK so it's a very old account. Anyway, unless the Sky system is in error and the reps on the phone see the same error, Sky is available. I can still order ADSL with them today, just not the fibre, and this is the case with all suppliers using the BTw products

I know, my friend was on it for a few months and he used to get about 50Kb/s from around 4pm to 1am... his line was only 2600Kb/s but as soon as he switched to BT all was fine 24/7...

If you can shift download stuff to night-time or weekends, this range may be of interest.

I don't see line rental being additional even in the small print, but think it might be. If it is then on their phone page it starts at £13pm. The boss is a nice guy, like Adam at Pulse8.

Thanks. Looking at the recent usage history it has more than halved since I backed up my games and may continue to reduce. I do push downloads to 1am-7am as much as possible and use daytime only if the line isn't busy, but I still see very heavy peak time usage. Just another annoying aspect to the timing of all this, I really need to see what the usage is like next month and the month after to get a truer picture. Based on today I would need the 90GB Aquiss option + line rental.

Have you established it is plus line rental, not included?

It's not clear, I will call them tomorrow and check but I the website makes it look like phone and broadband are separate items.

I have ended our contract term with Plusnet earlier this evening so now I can be a little more relaxed about deciding on the next step. I guess I will wait a little longer to see if any more info is forthcoming about the fibre/cabinet work.

????? !!!!

What do you mean "ended"? You have to be very careful with words in this context.

If you mean Cancelled your contract that would almost certainly mean a Cease Order being placed on the line. Unless you cancel the "Cancel" that would mean you would inevitably lose the line if it is with them, and therefore almost certainly the phone number.

If you mean just the broadband, that is bad enough. You will get a cease charge from Plusnet and depending on where you go a possible new broadband installation charge. (Both of those are automatic if the line is ceased).

In all cases, if there is any order at all on a line, no other order can be placed. So a Cease Order means "Phut!". You cannot transfer the line and you cannot migrate the broadband.

Please clarify exactly what you have done. You can probably still "cancel" that smile.

Poor choice of words then! I explained to the rep about the cabinet situation and not having a migration date but we wanted to leave pending the outcome of the Openreach work. The rep did say our discounts would be removed from the next bill and we would be free to move as and when, but to please call them back and give them a chance to match whatever deal we choose.

Will delve into the PN member centre shortly and see what is listed now. The email confirmation doesn't say anything specific about this:
Were sorry youve decided to leave us because of the changes weve made to our home phone pricing and call rates. As agreed, because youve told us within 30 days of receiving the email we wont be applying any early termination charges.

That looks fine. smile

Many people in the past have become unstuck by ringing up and saying they want to cancel their contract, so I felt I had to post.

better safe than sorry! just looking through the member centre pages (which aren't the clearest) the only thing I can find that might contain the info about this says:
Plusnet Unlimited £16.99(monthly) Complete

Deferred Activation £0(upon cancellation) Nullified
Free House Move £0.00(upon cancellation) Expired
Plusnet Unlimited (Contracted) £0(upon cancellation) Nullified
Cessation charge £0.00(upon cancellation) Cancelled

Talk Anytime £15.99(monthly) Active
Doesn't indicate that any cease order is pending, of course this might not be where such a thing would show. Paranoid now, but I might just double check with PN!
