BT contract about to end

Hi,

My BT broadband (non fibre) contract is about to end, so my introductory deal of £5/month is about to disappear.

Understandably, I'm not keen on the big price hike so was about to move.

However, my other half thinks if I phone BT and explain that I am willing to sign another 12 month contract, but don't need any hardware or vouchers, that they will keep the price as is, rather than lose a customer.

What say you? Worth a try, or are they just going to laugh?

edit: I should also state, I am on a rural exchange, and according to uswitch, I don't have many options.

e.g. They are saying Sky, plusnet and talktalk are not available. Can this be true?

I thought I would still be able to get non-LLU rebadged BT-wholesale offerings, or do these no longer exist?

If you have sky llu in your exchange, Sky are offering free unlimited broadband at the moment and they'll give you £50, or so it says here http://www.sky.com/shop/broadband-talk/?DCMP=knc-GOO...

Exchange is WSJOP, it's [censored]. No LLU, not even ADSL2 for the EO lines.

There is FTTx there, but a lot of EO lines, of which mine is one.

My contract with BT ended a couple of months back and they were not the least bit interested in giving me any deal. In fact I've been this route before and I'm now a serial switcher going between BT, Plusnet and now John Lewis - which is Plusnet in reality. I did try the Post Office once but got out of that quickly when Talk-Talk provided their service and reduced the bandwidth at peak times.

The packages vary slightly but give me all I need anyway.

I have the same issues with Electricity suppliers and frequently switch them as well.

It's not difficult to do.

Talktalk do not, and sky sometimes do in exceptional circumstances but the service is dire so avoid it. Plusnet will be available but at a more expensive price.

Sky's no good for you

BT probably know about the limited options, but retention deals in return for a 12 month contract generally are half way between standard price and your £5
