FTTC 30 Day - Options??

[link to this post]

Hello,

Looking for a short to medium term FTTC line for home, as we have an extra BT Line, mainly for work use. (WFH)

No landline number for the property as the line has been out of service for a few years. However a friend had a check on the BT Wholesale checker and property shows as having a free pair.

Now ideally looking for a reasonable priced provider that doesn't cost the earth, based in York. Cannot get any Fibre based product (Depsite Virgin & UFO being just down the road)

From the Samknows checker:

The following services are available in your location:

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
BT Wholesale SDSL
BT FTTC
BT FTTP
Vodafone LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband
Zen LLU

Looked at AAISP however costs are very high for usuage.

Try IDNet and Pulse8. 30 day contracts as standard.

Have a similar query in that BT G.Fast 18 month contract expiring in a couple of weeks. Loathe to sign another long contract as BT willingness to rectify slow speed (below 100Mbps minimum promised) evaporated after first month or so. Requests to leave based on said failure met with stonewalling.

Pulse8 do not charge for a G.Fast to G.Fast migration from another ISP.

Unclear as to whether any others do the same as most seem to require either a 12 month contract in order to waive install cost (whether transfer or new service) or no option for a monthly contract.

Happy to stand corrected.

Finally, G.Fast capable modem/router apparently unnecessary as a free BT G.Fast modem said to be provided on day of install (presumably by Openreach?).

Principal alternative Zen (with 12 mo contract) and have had nil but good to say about Zen previously but am willing to be adventurous with a company confident enough to offer a monthly contract with no install cost and a competitive price (£48 incl. VAT and line rental).

Cheaper G.fast 160/30 is TalkTalk £28 a month inc line rental but it fixed price for 18 months!

Check the uno "soho" BTw line rental (one month minimum term) and their TTB Fibre Pro (1 Month) or TTB Fibre+ Pro (1 Month) deals. Not cheap but excellent reliability and service.

Thank you adslmax. Certainly head turning. Having spent several happy years with Zen alongside hit and miss experiences with Virgin cable, the BT G.Fast offer 18 months ago - allies with BT Sport - led me to take a risk despite the bad press.

Once bitten, twice shy...

At peace with paying for that I expect and with a one month rolling contract have little fear in the event a jump necessary. Post lockdown, I now work from home a day a week and so particularly keen on accountability of provider as reliability and speed paramount for video conference meetings.

Pulse8 it is and along with the to be provided Openreach G.Fast modem I can retire my BT hub and use my own equipment again.

yep pulse 8 do offer g.fast for one month contract (I did try with them but end up BTw rejected the order due to exchange not yet enabled for TalkTalk Business G.fast as pulse8 using talktalk business backhaul for g.fast service.

Ummm max.

Pulse8broadband ordering G.Fast on a TalkTalk line is nothing whatsoever to do with BT Wholesale. Quite apart from G.Fast being enabled and supplied at cabinet level, not exchange level.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, sites and mail hosting - Tsohost & Ionos.
Connection - Three B311 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up. 1+ 8 Pro max 80Mbps down, 24Mbps up.

To argue with a mindless bigot is foolish.

Why pay top prices for TTB on a 30 day contract when 1P Broadband(rubbish name) do the same product for 19.99 same service as Pulse 8? I have the service and speeds never drop below 36 mbps at peak times on 38 mbps service product
