Speed test won't run & Java errors

[link to this post]

Hi all,

I can't run the speed tester. I've tried 2 machines, installed the latest Jave client via the link but the tester won't run. I've also tried to re-install but no joy. Just get the box with a a red "X" in it.

Here's the output from the java console and as i know naff all about Java it means nowt to me. As an additional note, i can't verify the install on the Sun site either. Any ideas?

Since you can't verify your Java installation on the Sun site (I assume you mean the "Verify Installation" link on http://www.java.com doesn't work), it seems that your problems must lie with Java and not with the ADSLGuide Speed Tester.

I suggest you have a look at these instructions ... http://www.java.com/en/download/help/5000010300.xml ... In particular, the bit about "Enable and Configure".

If you need to re-install again, try uninstalling your current version first.

Thanks but I've tried the un-install and install process and i followed all the FAQ's, etc. on the Sun site. It is enabled and so on but i'm just getting the errors as shown in the first post. Seems really odd that it's happening on both machines.

Could it be an anti-virus and/or firewall problem? Try turning both off temporarily to see if it makes any difference.

My Zone-Alarm firewall has both javaw.exe & jinstall.exe configured to allow trusted access.

if you been using MS virtual machine in the past and now using sun java, go into control panel>ad|remove programs>set program access and defaults>expand custom and make sure under choose default VM you don't have the MS on as your VM of choice.
