Its free because v6.0 is the latest one but I use this free v5.0 and haven't seen any major differences.

cccleaner has a decent registry cleaning element but Registry Mechanic is a more thorough specialist product IMHO as it allows you to do a few more things.

Another vote here for CCleaner. It isn't overly aggressive, I've never had a problem with it. It also does much more than clean the registry. It really is an indispensable program. If you decide to try it make sure you choose either BASIC (no toolbar) or SLIM (no toolbar, English only.)

i've used CCleaner for well over a year and am a great fan. Just wish it would do it's stuff across all accounts on the family PC.

I thought I'd try a specialist registry cleaner, because I'm forever playing about with freeware and then uninstalling it.

I've had a play with RegCleaner, but am nervous about how many registry issues it comes up with. What on earth is the significance of the red and green entries? There doesn't seem to be any form of help file to explain.

Just tried v5 of Registry Mechanic on your recommendation. It's very good and seems much better than Norton System Works I used to use before I defected.

Just to confirm you need to use the link shown and register to use all the features free.

as a paid up registery mechanic user and user of CC,I would recomend them both. Like spyware programs, one will find stuff the other missed

Sorry to resurrect an old thread (even if it is mine), but Registry Mechanic v5 has now reached the end of its evaluation period and I would prefer to use a specialist Registry cleaner in addition to Ccleaner.

I'm half thinking of paying for Registry Mechanic v6, but just wondered what people's current recommendations were.
