pen drive

My daughter(yes really) has put a lot of files on a pen drive. She made the mistake of lending the drive to a friend and when it came back no files were visible. The files were still there as I have been able to view then on SUSE but not windows. Her comp runs XP. The file names start with:-
\found.000\file0001.chk.etc. There is no visible lock on the pen drive. Any suggestions how we can get them back? I tried copying the file in vain using SUSE but XP refuses to read them.

i had this problem. I got a friend to fix it through linux, he had to rebuild the partition table for the pendrive, which seems to have been deleted.

I just stuck it in my server, gave someone a login on my linux box and told em to fix it for me. Worked fine. Not sure how they did it though, but atleast this is a start.

Looks like chkdsk files to me. They may be hidden files which is why SUSE can see them, and XP appears not to. So enable viewing hidden files in XP, and try copying them again.

That looks interesting, I'll give it a go possibly. I am now able to view the files by allowing my comp to see all files but I am not able to view them on XP. As I can view the files on SUSE, I'll get her comp to see all the files and she'll have to rename them by comparing with my comp. I'll make her do it the long way, she'll learn more that way.

Ooops , probably a similar technique to that used by offshore call centres to capture , subtly change UK user details. change some of your biographic detaiils & wait for a far bigger phish to go ast.

Plus side.can alsobe used to similute a floppy drive on thos very basic floppies a safer area than fiddling about in the BIOS for newbies
