XP downloads window stays empty

On my Windows XP laptop the downloads pop-up window appears when I download a file, but it remains empty, and the clear list button at the bottom remains greyed out.

Any ideas on how I can get the just-downloaded files listed again as they are on my desktop?

Assuming you are running Firefox 3 ...

Try clicking Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> History -> Remember what I've downloaded.
