Win7 lower versions for foreign language display?

[link to this post]

Can the cheaper versions of Win7 display foreign language pages correctly?

Even my olde Win98SE machine can correctly display many foreign languages such as Russian, Chinese, Japanese etc as long as the appropriate free MS download for that language has been applied.

I am hoping that the "foreign language support" only available in the most expensive Win7 version refers to the ability to interface with Windows in those languages, and not the simpler activity of merely displaying them correctly.

Anyone tried?

Come on guys, help me out here smile

Try clicking on some of the languages at www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/languages/
and see if they display properly.

On my old XP system languages for which I have installed the free downloaded language packs display correctly; as expected others like Burmese display only as character code blocks.

Surely there must be some Arabic, Japanese, or Chinese speakers here!

Win7 Ultimate here, Burmese wouldn't display properly but most of the others did.

I've had a look at a few of the languages on that site and I don't understand any of it.. grin

I have Ultimate on 1 box and Professional on another and both display the languages/script correctly using Firefox 3.5.4 and IE 8..

Thanks folks: the big question remaining is do the cheaper versions of Win7 also display correctly?

Could someone with the more basic versions give it a try please?

Many thanks.

Displaying should be no problem - the point of Windows 7 Ultimate is supposed to be that you can switch the whole operating system to another language
