Changing icons on bookmark toolbar

[link to this post]

I want to change the some icons on my bookmark toolbar (XP/Firefox).

I put all my daily visit sites on the bookmark toolbar. Some of them use icons with symbols or pictures which require no further description - this site for instance uses a 't' on a purple background. Some other sites have no distinct symbol/picture and just use the new page symbol with the folded over corner, so I have to add text to their properties line so I can tell one from another. This makes the last few icons inconveniently drop off the right hand end - I can access them through the >> symbol but this is a nuisance.

Is there any way I can change these 'new page' icons for something more recognisable so that I can lose the text descriptions and free up some space on the toolbar?

The little icon you see comes from the site itself - it's called a favicon.. I have no idea if it is possible to add them manually to your bookmarks..

Thanks for that. Now I know what they are called I have hit the Google button. Found lots about how to make them for a website, but nothing so far on how to insert them at the receiving end frown

Anyone got any ideas?
