Corrupted Win 7 backup image ... What now ?

HD failed.
So, I dug up my Win7 system image backup from November on two DVD-Rs.
Alas the image on the 1st DVD is NOT recoginsed by Win 7 repair software !
The second one, is recognised OK.
I think it's just missing some 'labeling' info.

Anyone knows how to fix that ?

Failing that, how do I get the Win7 and Office 2007 keys, from the backup disk(s) ?

(yes, I know, very stupid not keeping them in safe place !)

Hmm, 171 people read my post, no reply.
Search on the error code finds nothing useful on MS site.
No help from Microsoft Help either.....
I have decided to copy the "Image 1" files from the DVD-R to partition on HD to see if I could replace the Catalog file, by it's backup.
Alas two of the files do not copy, come up with CRC error !
One is a 4.3GB (long name).VHD file, the other one is (Writer..).XML file

Is there some 'forensic' software that would let me copy the files and hopefully correct the CRC erorrs ?

If it's a VHD you can mount it from Disk management in windows 7 to get to the files in it. The crc is likely been caused by a scratch on the disk, maybe give it a spit and polish. Failing that, isobuster maybe?

Try a small amount if T-cut to polish the disk if a simple clean doesn't work...

OK, after several attempts and lot of polishing, I have managed to copy the files from the the DVD-R on to the HD partition. I have renamed the Catalog files in order to use the backup one.

However the problem remains: Window 7 Repair simply does not SEE the Disk 1 image on either the DVD-R or the HD, though it sees the Disk 2 on the DVD-R.

How can I make the Window 7 Repair to see / use the image ?
What could be wrong with the image ? Are the specs for it listed anywhere ?

It could be the problem was on the disk when it written, and whichever program you used to burn it did not verify the integrity after the burn. Can you mount the .vhd file from Disk management?
