HDMI sound

I am able to connect my laptop ( win 7) to my TV via HDMI port. However I can see the laptop screen on the TV but not the sound on TV. I get the sound through the laptop. I tried the control panel audio options. The sound icon on the taskbar/ audio mix etc without success. There is no option on the soundcard property referring to HDMI sound. Any ideas ?

Is there a setting on the TV for sound input?

IF the graphics card has audio hdmi capability the toggle will be on the graphics card's control panel. However, it's pretty rare that they do. You will more likely have to plug a line out into the TV. Most TVs have a channel with an HDMI port with external audio (usually a headphone jack).

Try updating the drivers for the sound card. There should be an HDMI option when the lead is plugged in.

On my Dell I had to plug the HDMI cable into the laptop and TV and choose the HDMI sound output twice before it worked.

Since the first time it has worked without any fiddling.
