Mozilla certainly seem to be afraid of Goggle now - they have copied the while tabs look directly from Chrome...

I'm only on FF 25 - what are these while tabs?

they have been slowly turning firefox into chrome for ages now.

its worth noting mozilla got a ton of funding from google. google will likely want something back for their investment.

windows UI guidelines menu is top left. That UI looks a mess, and so dumbed down, blatant copying of chrome as well.

I am still on FF 25 ESR, but I will be switching to palemoon when this expires of whom the dev has vowed to not migrate the firefox UI changes, or hoping someone with sanity starts another browser.

It should,, of course, be white tabs - wrote it in a hurry before work.

Looking more like Chrome everday.

I dont know other then to have influence on software development.

reading the bug reporting section on mozilla's site shows some very interesting things how decisions get made.

e.g. when the ability to disable keepalive was removed someone started a new bug, reported stating removing this and that line from the code base because non persistent connections are bad for the internet, within 2 weeks his changes were in a stable version of firefox. He wasnt questioned, there was effectively no testing, it was a fast tracked feature cut to match with chrome. This guy clearly had influence, as there has been numerous bug reports since started by end users asking for the feature to be reinstated met with resistance from him and others from within mozilla. So they not listening to end users, the direction is coming from elsewhere.

Also sometimes discussions among developers indicate they have managers to answer to.

My guess is that they want to encourage remaining Firefox users to switch to their Chrome browser (and ultimately to their Chrome OS). To do this, they must make Firefox look and behave as much like Chrome as possible. Once they have done this, they can then shut down Firefox (or halt development as they have already done with the Thunderbird e-mail client). Their goal is to grab as much of the cloud-based thin-client (handset and tablet) world-wide market as they can. Remember that they own both the Android and Chrome operating systems.

The real prize is users' data. Google want to have as much of the world population's data on their data centres as possible where they can sift it and analyse it to their heart's content. They have already stated quite blatantly that are analysing users' G-mail messages for commercial purposes and will continue to do so. Microsoft and Apple are also going after the cloud-based thin-client market segment although Microsoft has been slow getting off the starting block. Both companies are probably too ethical to monetize their users' data but they will quite happily make it available to the NSA.

China is desperately playing catch-up so that their own people's data doesn't reside on data centres in the USA. I am not sure what Russia is doing but it will need to be something similar if they don't want to lose their own people's data in the same way. India and the Arab states also need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Been using the 64 bit for a while.

All my 40 extensions work fine.

Only problem so far is that Java applets are disabled and I can't find out how to enable them.

Java works for me on FF 29.

Palemoon is good, better than firefox, i used the 64bit version for a while.
Talking of which, why are most browsers still 32bit?

There's probably not a lot to be gained in performance by going to 64-bit. Also, not all extensions are available with 64-bit versions.

firefox were sort of half going to do a 64bit windows and then replaced it with metro version instead, apparently they are incapable of making all 3.

IE64bit runs way better than IE32bit.

In addition 32bit browsers have less security on a windows system.

Oh dear! Looks like Mozilla are going ahead with their "sponsored tiles" idea...

Its not possible, as far I know, to get the links from Windows 8 News app...

Just Google Firefox sponsored tiles and you'll get plenty of hits.

I've changed about:config setting browser:newtab:url to about:blank to avoid the current new tab page. Whether that, or something similar, would work with a new version of Firefox is a different matter completely.

Try Tab Mix Plus and configure the url for a new tab. For example, I use my home page (an html file on my PC that contains a table of ca. 50 links).

tab mix plus is absolutely essential for me, without it tabbed browsing is a very bad experience.
