Not available here - apparently if you do the last update, then Threshold 2 wont be available for a while - apparently its equivalent to installing a new version of Windows...
|
|
|
I heard that I did an in-place upgrade using the Media creation tool and a USB stick.
|
|
|
|
Yes, apparently that would work too - I decided to wait a day...

Installed without any problems. The one oddity is that it changed file association for .pdf from Adobe Reader to Edge, for some reason.

Thanks for that comment, it'll help a friend of mine to avoid problems for her

Just noticed also that .jpg had gone to Photo Viewer from IrfanView, although all the other picture filetypes had been left where they were. Odd. Easy enough to change back in Settings/System/Default apps (I'm sure you know this already!)

I installed it over the weekend, I backed up my Windows 8.1 and done a clean install, i can't see it staying on this computer for long to be honest

But ten is worse than Windows 8.1 i did go back to 7 for while.
It is not so much the look of ten, I can get around the awful start menu like I got around the start screen on 8, it is the spying and the way MS thinks they own our computer with the forced updating and wanting to know every thing about you.
I also do not like this service idea.

Just go with the flow and stop being negative - all the "spying" stuff can still be disabled.

Had a interesting one this evening. My Win7 machine popped up a window for the WIN 10 upgrade, there were two obvious buttons "Upgrade" and "Later". Not wishing to upgrade I clicked the later button (I think I should have just closed the window). It proceeded to download a copy of Win 10 and then started on the install process. It stopped on an an agreement page, which I declined and it then asked me to confirm as this would prevent the upgrade happening.
Deceitful process I think.

Microsoft prevented Threshold being available for a few days if you had installed any updates the day before to stop their servers being overwhelmed apparently.

However, it seems that Microsoft has found a way to take three steps back from that progress by insisting that all users who recently upgraded their systems to Windows 10 must use the new OS for a month before they can install the update. Link. Looks like a scary update from the rest of the article.
The indispensable man or woman passes from the scene, and what happens next is more or less the same thing as was happening before.

At least Windows 8 did not want to know what you was doing and delete software. the problemn now is that since Windows 10 is a what Ms calls a service they can add what they want and we would be none the wiser. why arE they not telling us what the updates do? Sneaky, very sneaky
There are still parts of Windows 8 I do not like, but at least most of the bits I do not like I can change or hide.
Lets all go with the flow, MS says jump and we all ask how high.

Oh I see. I just installed from scratch as a clean install, I have not done any updates since, for some reason my computer have decided to give up on updates even after re-enabling updates.
I thinking of going back to 8.1 tomorrow.

Windows 10 Threshold 2 will not be installed for 31 days post-upgrade from Windows 7/8, because it removes the ability to roll back to Windows 7/8, and users are promised the ability to downgrade for 31 days post upgrade.

Microsoft never have said what exactly an update has done, which can be annoying.

Microsoft never have said what exactly an update has done, which can be annoying. there was more information about updates for previous versions of Windows than with 10. We have no idea now what each update does

I've always found that the details of updates to be very vague. This is especially true for drivers (no version given, for example).
