Printing in "Cyan"

[link to this post]

I regularly need to print some documents which have blue print.

I used to select an appropriate blue from the colour pallet in Word 2003 or 2007 and this used to be OK. Anyway my now rather ancient OKI C5200 printer may have either a blue drum problem or a transfer belt problem. Both have over the time I have had the printer been replaced. II cannot give a page figue since I had a main board fail a year or so back and lost the totals.

Anyway today, believing that I was short of toner, fitted a new Cyan toner cartridge only to find that I was getting a wide vertical stripe where the Magenta toner predominated.

Since the colour of the Cyan toner would be a suitable colour for printing, I tried Google to find either RGB or HSL figures for Cyan. Thought that would be easy, only to find that the colour called Cyan is nothing like OKI Cyan toner....

When I had some problems with the printer about 10 years ago, OKI Technical sent me a test image for solid Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. Printing this off is not 100% perfect, but not too far off.

So my question is what mix of RGB or HSL will give 100% Cyan Toner?

Thanks!

Strangely those are the ratios that I found earlier today. Certainly on my screen that colour is nothing like the colour of OKI's Cyan toner. Nor the Cyan colour bar on the OKI test image.

Just had a look at test charts and the cyan here https://refreshcartridges.co.uk/igloo/colour-laser-p... on screen looks different to the cyan at https://www.color-hex.com/color/00ffff on screen!

I know that screen colour is not necessarily printing colour, so tomorrow I will try printing a document using those ratios.

Cheers!

Check that you have the correct colour profile associated with your screen and the correct one for your printer..

I dont know if this is related but I print off my invoices from my ISP which used to have an orange background, a few months later it is now pink but oddly looks the same on screen. I suspect a printer driver problem been meaning to leave Windows 10 feedback about this for some time. Thanks for the reminder. My printer is an HP D1460 Deskjet. So the printer subsystem is my first suspect.

Besides the image that OKI sent me, I also have one from https://refreshcartridges.co.uk/igloo/colour-laser-p... in particular the one with lorrm ipsum dolar sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor beneath each block of colour.

A few years ago I had colour issues and was advised to swap over two of the drum and toner cartridge units. So today simply removed the Yellow and Magenta units and printed out my two test images.

What I found was that the solid blue remained the same colour, which must be Cyan since that was the only toner present. There was a slight dimming in the same place as where when printing a different shade of blue, magenta appears. But what surprised me was that there was also Cyan present for the Black solid block. Found that the printer was set for composite CMYK for Black, rather than Black alone. So removed the Cyan, Magenta and Yellow units and re-tested with just Black (K) in position and the printer set to use True Black (K), ie for Black use Black rather than use a combination of all four. This time got a much better Black with no stripes.

So that would suggest that the problem lies with the Cyan Drum alone. I have one on order. Fingers crossed that when fitted the problem is resolved. I can then experiment to find the best shade of blue.

Cheers!
