Subscription Updates Win 10

[link to this post]

The news on the grapevine is that after October 2025 Microsoft will give consumers and businesses the option of continuing security updates on Windows 10 for 3 years. The price is yet to be announced but its thought to be an annual subscription for 12 months of security updates, no feature updates will be rolled out. New CEO pah.

Isn’t that basically what Microsoft have always done - extended support for businesses who purchase under a volume licence agreement. It sounds as if they are now extending this with consumers having the option of purchasing extended support.

Sounds like a good move.

Yes, same for XP, Vista and Win7 in the past. Its quite expensive and you need to be a business as you need a reasonable quantity.

And the difference is that they are now offering this facility (at a yet to be announced price) to individuals.

As a comparison, the version of OS X that was current when Windows 10 was introduced was Yosemite (10.10). Support for this ended in August 2017.

I don't think I will bother, I only use my Pc for a few games these days, so will keep Windows 10 on it as it is. As long as i have a good security suite, I think it will be fine. Even if I update it at some point, which will only happen when board or CPU fail, I will keep 10 on it. windows 12 by the seems of it will be all about AI and that rubbish, so I will certainly not update to 12, even if I can.

A decent cash cow. Arbitrarily restrict new versions of Windows to newer CPUs for no good reason and charge people a subscription who don't want to buy a new PC.

It’s almost as if they’ve been taking lessons from Apple. Only difference is that Apple don’t give you the option of buying support.

There’s always Linux for those who disapprove of the Microsoft/Apple model.
