Ok Answer This One

[link to this post]

A friend of mine asked me to put anti spy/adware/virus on to her PC. I installed spybot search and destroy, adaware and AVG. She had the wireless connection sorted out a few days later. What's happened now is that .dll files are going missing, her pictures have disappeared from her documents folder and her boyfriend can no longer play on Battlefield. They have had a friend come round to try and work it out and nothing seems to be working. Anyone here had similar problems and know of any solution?

Maybe it's because you put a virus and adware on her machine.

What dll files are going missing. If she disables the installed software can battlefield be played?

Literally it's got to the point now where after they unquarantined everything they tried to repair windows and that wouldn't take, now they are trying to reformat the PC and it won't let them. I put Spybot, adaware and AVG on for them, told them to keep checking what was going through for fixing and to keep it updated. One trojan and two win 32 viruses were found on the initial AVG scan, as soon as one Trojan was healed another went straight into Quarantine. She has taken off everything I put on and still no joy.

Assume they are using XP, if so they will have to turn system restore off before they run their AV as the nasties just hid in there and replicate themselves when you squish the one your AV picks up.

Edit as above slightly misleading.
You should turn off system restore prior to cleaning any viruses off your PC, to insure that all infected files are removed, rather than turn if off, when you scan your machine with your AV.

XP home, and I got pro that's something I didn't know you had to do, I'll keep that piece of info for further use, but they did have a friends who has allegedly been working with PC's for the last 12 years come out last night and couldn't work it out so I would assume he did that, if he does infact work on the PC's and not just at something like PC World.

Edited coz I can't get my numbers right
