Sorry if this is in the wrong area. Today my boss came into my office and took the computer names of all the PC's (they are on a server). now I'm wondering if this is so IT can monitor and report my internet usage, etc to him? If not what could it be used for? can they monitor by log on username too?

Could be doing it for an audit. It is possible to monitor when users log in, and what the do.

More likely IT have already been monitoring your internet usage and have sent him a report of which PCs have been doing what and he wants to know which PC corresponds to which worker.

My employer monitors internet usage and lets the managers know monthly if you exceed a certain amount!!!

My employer has an internet usage policy, which is fair - you can use it so long as it does not affect your normal job, that you don't access any adult or other banned sites, nor use discussion forums!
