Vista and HDMI

[link to this post]

Hi There,

I have two Acer Aspire XS3200 machines running Vista Home Premium.

I have them both connected to a Plasma and LCD (each individual one) using HDMI.

Every time I reboot each machine, there is no sound delivered via HDMI.

When I go to Control Panel/Sounds, I notice that the "NVIDIA HDMI Output" is either deselected and defaulted to "Realtek Digital Output" or has disappeared alltogether.

I can resolve this by going into Device Manager/Sound, video and game controllers, disabling "NVIDIA HDMI Output" then re-enabling it.

I have checked for latest drivers and am told I am running them. I have disabled "Realtek Digital Output" all to no avail.

It seems that each time the machines are started it seems to forget to send the sound via HDMI.

This is rather frustrating as one of the machines is used as an HTPC.

Anyone got any ideas?

Get your laptop stuff from here: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
When I had an nvidia laptop, this site was great since they usually slap an inf file with the driver to let you install the latest drivers for your laptop.

The realtek one is out of date by a year. its worth trying the gneric realtek drivers (very few companies go and rebrand/alter them anyway)

Ops (every time I see aspire I think laptop), doesn't really matter, since they add support for even legacy cards there. Plus you can get the latest beta, and read up on what other users thought of them. How ever the newer Realtek R2.18 might help.

I don't suffer that issue with my ati + realtek over hdmi to my tv.

Thanks. But it is the NVIDIA HDMI Audio that is having the problem.

Nonetheless I installed the drivers and the NVIDIA HDMI Audio driver remains at the same version as before.
