My wifes vista home basic laptop and the firewall

[link to this post]

I started off installing Comodo, she had no problem until the latest update, when the firewall started blocking the desktop. I then installed Online Armour - brilliant firewall, everytime the laptop was turned on the firewall was turned off!

Third time lucky? not a chance. Sunbelt Firewall decided it didn't like Facebook and would stop a script from running.

Her laptop is now running PC Tools and Threatfire and all seems well so far.

And yes before you ask all were uninstalled prior to installing the new software.

Just hope that is the end of her bad luck when it comes to Firewalls.

I'm very suprised about that, I have used KPF/SPF for many years and beta tested the vista version of SPF months before it was released, and never seen any problems like that - I have seen with web filtering enabled indeed, but never when its disabled.

It really is the best and most lightweight firewall I have come across so it is a shame that stopped you using it. Are you sure you unchecked all boxes in the "Web" tab including the "privacy" and "ad blocking" tabs?

I suppose it doesen't matter now, but if you decide to use it again there is a registry value you can change which disables the whole web filtering module and this would almost definately solve your problem - the web filtering is very outdated so shouldn't be used anyway. One of the best aspects of SPF is that fact it does not make a footprint on any other things whatsoever imho smile

Just use Windows Firewall behind your router (if you have one).
