vista issues

hi all,

I am having problems with my laptop which uses vista. It keeps freezing when I on working on it including when online. What is causing this to happen?

Might be any number of things. Most likely a hardware issue though. Overheating, improperly seated memory?

What firewall and A/V software is it running?

Feel around for unusually hot areas when it freezes.

If possible start the task manager on a freeze (or have it open for testing) and see if the CPU is maxed on freeze.

Download Sandra lite and run the CPU and GPU benchmarks to see if either or both cause a freeze.

Have downloaded the software and the benchmark test causes a freeze when the dial in top right corner reaches 2/3s and task manager CPU Usage under performance reads 100%.
When benchmark process is over, CPU usage returns to about 5% and the it unfreezes.

What does this mean and how do I solve the problem?

That is normal behaviour for sandra. Run a stress test with prime95 on 'in-place large fft' setting. If that passes, next you could make a bootable cd with memtest and check the memory.
