Just copy the entire drive to another drive, I'm assuming the contents are valuable?

yes thankyou trying it now currently at 68% after about an hour or 2 but then it does have a lot to go though i.e. around 150gb

It takes a while, but I have found it to be pretty reliable when attempting to restore what it finds.

well after a long wait (yesterday) i managed to recover some files however it wasn't much use cos 98% of the files i could open I had on my internal data hhd anyway. The last 2% most of that was files which showed as being there but when clicked on they wouldn't open to show the picture etc.

Anyway I've given up and deleted what I found not worth keeping.
Just remembered something but when i was copying over 50gb+ of video files (no one file being more then 3gb) I got an i/o error on one file, i thought nothing of it at the time as i was able to copy that file over when i tried again.
Was that a warning that i was going to find my self with the problem i have?

also using ntfs on such volumes is much more of a better idea than fat32..Only time you should use fat32 is if you need windows 98 compatibility or linux compatibility

or if you wanted to use it play video's etc from it via your xbox 360...as it won't even see the hdd if its not using fat32 frown
