http error 12007

[link to this post]

My brother has madasafish as his ISP. After a Windows XP update he started getting this error in IE. (Unfortunately automatic restores have not been taking place so this is not an option for resolving this problem.)

AFAICT there are no problems with his physical connection to the internet.

I have tried running various commnads in the command shell, and rebooting the wireless modem. The error persists however.

Have any other maaf subscribers had this problem? Did you manage to solve it? How?

Thanks in advance.

Do you get the same error if you use a different browser?

My previous reply somehow did not get sent.

I would like to install FF but we can't get online to download it.

Some people have solved the problem this way (using another browser), while others say it didn't make a difference.

Try this reset method (but you will lose IE settings).

http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/06/12/628499.aspx

edited to add: basically To invoke RIES from IE7 and IE7+, go to Tools Menu, Internet Options, Advanced Tab and click on Reset button. If Internet Explorer is in a state where it cannot be started, one can get to RIES from Internet Options in Control Panel.
