Start up freezes

[link to this post]

Hi,

Last week I used CC cleaner to take some progs out of the start up menu (oopps!!! Obviously shouldn't have done that) as now, PC loads fine but the desktop freezes after start up. I can get round it by clicking Alt Ctrl Delete and then cancel but it's pretty annoying.

The trouble is I cannot remember what I disabled/deleted from start up (it was only 2 progs).

I have tried to restore backup from CC Cleaner but that hasn't worked.

Any ideas how I can find out what is causing the freeze on start up and how I can possbily rectify the problem at all?

Any help, as usual, would be greatly appreciated smile

TIA
Helan

Hi, if you are in win xp ,go to run, and type : msconfig . This will give you access to the startup programs. Tick all the startup programs. Hopefully it may sort your problem.

That's not gonna help. OP has already removed 2 start-up programs. This isn't gonna get them magically back.

He's best bet is to do a System Restore to before he ran CCleaner, if he can't remember what he deleted.

Have you had a look at the event logs to see if there are any error messages at start-up? This can often be a useful source of information.

TBH I would doubt that it is a result of removing start-up items - the symptoms just don't sound right.

This is correct start up item removal shouldn't lead to a freeze at startup. Something else is amiss. A system restore before the CC might help.

OP said "disabled/deleted ".

So if only disabled then they are still available to recheck.

Was Eclipse Home Option 1 & VM 2Mb
Now O2 standard

Hi All,

sorry for delay but I've had no PC, hard drive failed (luckily I had all my important stuff on a back up) so I had to wait for a new one to arrive (y'day) and put that on today.

No freeze up problems so far lol smile

Thank you all for your replies and apologies for delay in getting back to you. First time I been able to reply smile

Thanks again
Helan
