XP Network Issues

Hey all. Im having an odd issue with my VIA onboard lan.

When downloading (in this case counter strike on steam) a lot of data my onboard lan just stops working. Its still connected but i cant access any webpages or even the router web page and the download stops.

Disabling and then enabling the network adapter fixes this and the download will start again and web pages etc will load again.

I have re-installed windows, tried diffrent lan drivers but it makes no diffrence Does this mean my onboard lan is on its way out? or is there someone else thats wrong that can be fixed?

Could my CPU over clocking be a cause?

Nice Narrows software causes out pretty much.

Well, anything is possible, I would advise you restore all the clocking to the defaults first and see if the problem goes away.

Hmm, I think for the price of a new network card, that would be the route to go yes. They can sometimes collapse when they are dealing with hundreds of simultaneous connections. Could also even be the router.

The router is a possible cause... Been reading a lot of posts about all sorts of problems with the VM supplied Dlink DIR615

Well after setting the cpu back to default clocks all seems "ok" so far...

Are you on a normal 10/100 network Sean ? or gigabit ?

The reason I'm asking is if you are thinking of buying a 10/100 PCI netwok card, I would rather use a second hand Intel one than a new realtek/generic one.
I have quite a few spare so if you would like one PM me your addy and I will send you one.
I have used them for a long time now because they NEVER give me any problems and every O/S from Windows 3.1 onwards recognises them without faffing around with driver disks.

Im actually panning on getting a gigabit card anyway as my new router has a built in gigabit switch.

I got an Intel Pro MT Dual Gigabit Server card off eBay for £11 a while back

It won't improve internet connection performance as you know but may come in handy if using it for home networking.
