Vista or Intel LCD issue

[link to this post]

Got the OH's youngest sons Advent 9112 laptop to fix again. Sigh.....

Long story... mobo was stuffed... bought an Ebay carcass replacement, fitted the LCD screen, CPU, DVD drive, memory, keyboard and hdd. Used the rescue DVD to do a full destructive recovery and performed all the usual patches SP2 etc. All was fine when booted smile The youngest worked it ok after he figured out my password clue!

Then someone (OH) got bored, played with apparently unmemorable keys whilst booting it and lo the display now has a 50 mm black band on the right hand side and a 10 mm black band at the bottom of the screen. The bottom band "leaks" the Windows graphic start button as a streak and if you put the cursur near the bottom of the screen it also "leaks".

I thought no problems it is the Intel graphics causing the issue. Checked and can only select 1024 x 768 max resolution or 800 x 600 and to be honest the resolution looks about right for the larger.

Does anyone know how to mess with the video bios settings as it can't be done in the system bios?

Have already attempted both XP PRO install on the system drive and another destructive Vista recovery. Bizzarely the screen went an interesting pinky/red colour all over before the last recovery. The darn bands reappeared after the recovery though ;(

Wits end approaching so any ideas gratefully accepted. TIA

Have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting the displays cable? as it could have come loose.
