XP Device Manager - sorted

[link to this post]

Is there any way to get a link to Device Manager into the Quick Launch part of the tool bar?

It is a nuisance having to go through <Start>, <Settings>, <Control Panel> (wait to build and load), <System>, <Hardware> then finally <Device Manager>.

In Vista (not sure about XP), you can create a shortcut to the device manager. It appears on the desktop, and if you unlock the taskbar, it will allow you to drag and drop the shortcut to it. Re-lock and that's it.

Only a little way there though removing one step.

And I prefer the original Classic Start Menu ...

You can do it in classic mode. I used to be the same when I used XP. Hated the 'new look'. Vista is slightly better. Less useless items and more customisable.

Cannot seem to create the shortcut!

Can get to Computer Management 2 levels above but not System Tools or Device Manager.

Create a shortcut to devmgmt.msc and do with it as you want.

That's the one ...

I was trying various short names: dermgr, dvemgr, devmgmnt, but not devmgmt until now! Used teh Computer Management shortcut as the base for the full path,

Not quite what you want - but in XP you can get to <System> - by right mouse clicking on "My Computer" (on desktop or explorer) and selecting "properties" from the menu
