Connected with limited access

[link to this post]

I have a small, home wireless network. The network is my desktop PC and BT Home hub (upstairs) and my wifes HP laptop downstairs. The network has been running fine now for 18 months. Today my wife switched her laptop on and she gets a network message which states 'connected with limited access' -- indeed the access is limited because she can no longer access email or the internet. I have checked, via Google, a solution to the problem but couldn't find one that has solved the problem.
Both machines are running Vista.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can resolve the problem.

Thanks in advance - Ozzie

SWIOSWIO......... (switch it off Switch it on - the router that is). My Dell laptop used to have the same problem very occasionally and that always solved it.........

Yup tried that - turned off both PC's and Router/Modem - still no joy.

Yes I do and it's working fine. In fact I had the laptop along side as I looked at the answers that were given to this problem (most of the problems that were logged were over 2 years old) but I still gave 'em a try - with no success.

Have you tried disconnecting the laptop from the network and then manually connecting, to the right network, again?

On the laptop in question - Go into Control Panel and then Networks and find 'Manage Wireless Networks'. DELETE the network you are using (don't just disconnect). Then right click on the network icon on the task bar and connect. Should clear out any duff info.......

Edit - added 'On the laptop in question'!!

Thank you both guys. I did as suggested, disconnected and then reconnected manually. Entered the wireless key from the back of the homehub box when requested, and it started perfectly.

Thanks again for taking the time and trouble to respond, my wife will start cooking me food and making me tea again smile

Best wishes - Ozzie

try switch laptop off, switch router off, switch router on, wait 2 minutes, switch laptop on

your laptop probably does not have an IP address, look a the status of the wireless connection (right mouse popup menu)

sorry - put it in wrong place first time round. Giddy with excitement that it's working once more.
