Playing midi music

I used to be able to play midi music, now I can't (following replacement of my failed hard drive). Something has gone AWOL ? Midi is apparently digitally generated by my pc and not a WAV or MP3 file?

Have tried Windows XP Q&A, visited various "sites" displayed by Settings. What am I doing wrong? (The midi music that won't play is in a game CD-ROM called Moraff. I have no other Midi music)

Why not download a midi music file, google will turn up thousands and see if they will play. This will let you know if it is your system or just related to your CD rom or game disk.

Midi files are associated to WMP on my system so just double click plays them.

You may need to re-install the drivers for your sound card. It is the drivers that do the conversion from midi stream to audio stream.

Technically, I think that depends on the program you are using to play the MIDI, though most games (and windows media player) do rely on Hardware indeed. Reinstalling the sound drivers is also what I'd be doing next anyway.
