Which Network Adapter Have I?

I have an HP Pavilion Desktop PC running XP. It has only one Network Card.

In its Device Manager and Network Connections it identifies it as "Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection".

However some network apps identify it as "HP EN1207D-TX PCI 10/100 Fast Ethernet Adapter", e.g. Netgear Recovery Utility has only the latter and TCPOptimizer shows both.

Which is it or are they the same?

This makes me uncertain which Adapter I should be optimising in TCPOptimizer, for instance.

Just a thought you could try scanning for an Intel driver update and see if it detects it or not.

Thanks! I updated my Intel Networking driver and the Netgear Recovery Tool can now see both Descriptions of my Network Adapter, tho' I haven't yet tried to flash a DG834GT.

Its likely the HP adaptor name is actually using an Intel chip - I have a 100meg PCI card here with an Intel chip that gets detected as "IBM Netfinity adaptor" but runs with an Intel driver!

Try setting a system environment variable of
Name: devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
Value: 1

Then open device manager, and view -> show hidden, then open Network Adapters, and see what shows up. Some temporary connected devices will be grey'd out.

Duh! I forgot, or never knew, about Show Hidden Devices.

Yes, the HP adaptor name is there (w/out the Env Var).
