I also read a section on that website about Routers that `Do not give statistics` - I wondered if Mine was one of these ?
Extremely unlikely!

Anyway we are not (yet) talking about Statistics, which are measures of how the line is behaving, but about the router's initial configured Settings which must be there for the router to connect in the 1st place.

I described exactly what happened - do You have any idea of what might try next regarding what happened when I could not get Internet Explorer to connect to the `Address` when clicking onto it on the website that You gave Me the Link to - ?

When I type it into My Browser I obviously get the Google Results - probably Hundreds of Thousands of results regarding 192.168.0.1[I did not notice the number]

I then realised that I should have been typing it as: http://www.192.168.0.1 [I think ?]

This was also NOT effective and I managed to find out these details:

COPIED & PASTED:

I should add that I have tried several other websites / web Addresses to make sure that My Internet Connection is working.

Sorry again that this has become complicated - I am really frustrated about this.

Thanks.

I really dont know what are doing.

You are not doing a google search, forget google. You were meant to type EXACTLY what I said into the address bar of your browser. And I never said there was "www." in it.

Now just click on this http://192.168.0.1

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU => 2011: Orange 19 Meg WBC

Of course, other common IPs for routers may be :

http://192.168.1.1
http://192.168.1.254

Worth trying if the one you suggested is not working.

According to the ipconfig /all results he posted earlier, the default gateway is
192.168.0.1 so that is the address he should be typing into the address bar.

To the OP please try again.

Look up towards the top of the screen and you should see something like
http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/reply/windo.....
replace this with 192.168.0.1 That is a zero not a capital O.

It should display the router login page or at least a link which allows you to log in. Try the username and password that were indicated earlier.

Good luck

Ooos. Forgot the ipconfig had been run - came back after a few days and didn't reread all the previous posts.

As an addition it might be useful for the OP to go to the command prompt again and try :

ping 192.168.0.1

It obviously should get replys but if for any reason it does not that might show something weird going on.

I forget, has anyone suggested replacing the network cable from PC to router with a completely different one in case there is a break causing some sort of issue (shouldn't be but getting desparate here).

I'm leaning more towards a driver problem. The link earlier in this thread for Intel drivers should be used to detect current drivers.

.
Looked at the Acer website. The Lan drivers on windows 7 are microsoft.
The OP has used Imtel website and there are no updates
It looks like OP is reluctant to install anything for fear of causing problems, which I can understand.
Looks to be a conflict problem rather than driver, as the computer will start when router disconnected. Router will connect to computer after start up but will then not disconnect.
Both the computer and broadband router have wireless access but not used by OP, This would be the easiest way to proceed as it will not affect the computer in any way if unsuccessful,
The conflict could be for a number of reason. The first question I would ask is when was Defragmentation implemented by OP.
