I use Messenger app on my PC as its handy for getting Hotmail alerts. Seeing as they're turning off the servers next month, wanted something else that would monitor Hotmail and alert me of new mail. I believe Skype doesnt do this, so was thinking of Windows Mail
Anyone used it and can you link Hotmail accounts to it? Does it look/act in the same way Outlook does and alert you when you have new mail?
Windows Live Mail gets a lot of stick but actually does what it says on the tin. I have it set to download from three accounts and open it when I switch on then minimise it.
It has various alert types to let you know when 'you have mail'.
In the General Tab in Options, tick 'play sound when new messages arrive'. You also get a little envelope in the Live icon on the Task Bar, but I think that this is automatic.
As for the negatives, I think the link to Windows Live and other stuff that you don't really need. But you can igonore all that very easily. I also read about possible security issues, as you log in with your actual email passwords, not a different one, as in Outlook Express.
