Windows 8 Top Tips

Yesterday I bought a little Acer running Win 8. Not a hugely powerful machine, with a core i3 and 6GM of memory (£329). But it is neat and suitable for travelling.

I was horrified at all the social and media panels on the start screen, but having installed the software I want, or most of it I have re-arranged the screen and eliminated several I definitely do not want.

In the process I have discovered that the shortcut keys are really useful, as I elected not to go for a touch screen machine.

So far my experience of Windows 8 is a good one. The machine certainly starts up very fast. and seems easy to use.

I have found several top tip sites through Google, but I wondered, what is you top tip, for getting the most out of Windows 8, if of course you have it.

Change it to Win7 !

Nope, time to move on, I think. I have used all versions from Windows 3 onwards. The only one I was not particularly impressed with as being an improvement was Vista. But I was moving from XP Pro to Vista Home.

On my main Win 7 machine I run the XP pro in a virtual machine, for a legacy account program that will not play with 64 bit stuff.

You could of course boot to the desktop with any of the free start replacement programs, if you don't like the tiles (or having to click the desktop tile each time to start up).
