Acronis True Image user feedback

[link to this post]

Does anybody use this [the latest version] here.

Thinking about setting it up on a friends computer.

I used it many years ago and always found it pretty bad in the sense that it didn't work properly and support was pretty terrible.

I've used Acronis True Image 2010 2011 2012 2013 on all of my computers, over the years.

4 computers are due to backup Saturday, to my NAS unit.

Any restores over the years, has worked first time, every time.

I use TI2010. It has a godawful UI which is slow and klunky. My usual way of leaving the UI is for it to crash out on me :-/ For some bizarre reason the recovery console (when you boot from a USB stick to get everything back) is horribly slow. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the point where restoration starts. The restoration itself takes about 5 minutes :-/

The only reason I keep it is because I know it works. I have two disks in play and periodically recover my server to the spare disk as a test.

But...gawd..the UI is an unpleasant experience.

I still use TI Home 2010 and it still works flawlessly with both win 7 32 and 64 bit.
Not upgraded as the feedback from the later versions wasn't to my liking.

a mate of mine still uses Ghost, but I now find it slow and it don't do what I want compared to Acronis

True Image is pretty bloated. You should have a look at Macrium Reflect.

Macrium Reflect.

I'd add my vote for Macrium Reflect. Gave up on Ghost a long time ago.
Even the free Reflect does what most people require.

Never noticed True image being bloated to be honest, it does the job and does it well. what I like about it is that if i wanted to put a image from a larger drive i can do it as long as there is space. Ghost would not do that.

i have not idea about Macrium Reflect, I have never heard of it until now. i may have a nose, but I will not be buying it as I just paid out for true image.

Yup. I've done that. I grew the partition in my server when the first drive failed then shrunk it back down when I bought an SSD. TI doesn't bat an eyelid. You just tell it to restore and off it goes. I just wish it didn't run like a Z80 with half the registers missing :-/

I reckon there must be some driver issue somewhere. It's a low power Atom based machine (a Fit-PC2) with 1GB of RAM but Windows 7 installed and ran without needing special drivers. Still - something about the recovery console is clearly not happy :-/
