I installed it and all seems fine. The link above suggests that Microsoft are getting sloppy about testing the updates before sending them out and I think that we all need to be a bit wary nowadays.

Windows updates must be a nightmare to test though. Thousands off different PC setups, and the most obscure thing can break an update (as shown here with some font files not being in the default folder). Only so much you can test for really

And a very, very, very, very small minority is still a lot of users.

That's totally subjective.

In reply to a post by broadband66:
Because for a minority of users the odd update wrecks their computer.
In my case I'm not sure it was the update itself (or themselves since it was two different updates at different times). It 'felt' more like something Windows Update itself had done. I rebooted and both machines stuck at the 'Welcome' screen. In both cases it seems my user profiles got trashed. I think on the server my maintenance account still worked implying it wasn't a problem reading profiles in general.

Weird :-/

My computers always set a restore point before updating (I think that's standard) but I wonder how many users would know how to restore if their computer wouldn't boot. One thing that's always annoyed me is how difficult the boot/BIOS menu screen is to access immediately after power-on. One of my laptops gives you literally one second to press a key.

The user profile for a Vista user friend of mine failed after an update last week. Restored from a restore point the day prior to the update and all is now ok.

The next couple of updates were ok as well.

Computers, huh - who'd have them?

What a load of tosh. Billions of users and even 0.01% is still a lot.

Since when was "a very, very, very, very small minority" 0.01%?

Go on then, what in your expert opinion is a "small minority"?
